Jill Scott is a highly respected musician. Ashanti is neither legendary or revered and shes honestly not relevant either

VZ doesnt mean ur relevant, I'm sorry. It's more about nostalgia and songs that we all love and relate to. Bow wow just did a fckn vz......is he now magically relevant?  VZ is a cute stroll down memory lane mess. Some people that have done it are currently relevant. Ashanti is not one of those people 

the difference there is that Bow wow was made to be a joke and meme when he did Verzuz, while Ashanti was being praised for her music and improved vocals and poise under pressure amidst Keyshia's Attitude and late arrival. I'm not just talking about Ashanti simply doing the Verzuz, but the talk around her both times she completed her sets. The first one she did with Keyshia garnered a lot of praise for her and most people deemed her to be the winner.

You could argue these Lady of Soul awards are given out due to accomplishments as well as pure nostalgia. I think many things can be true here at the same time.

It's not enough to just do Verzuz and go down memory lane IMO. It's about how you present and deliver them records as well. How're your edits, song order, vocals, etc. Ashanti really did her thing

Again, she would not be my first choice but maybe her team put a call in and put the idea in someone's ear. She's having a nice season right now so i could see why it happened for her. Just like it was kinda obvious Monica would be the choice last year although that's even more of a no brainer

Nobody cares if Ashanti is considered a "soul" singer or not. The only thing that matters is she is of NO relevancy or importance. Like, no one admires the bitch or even recognizes her as a great in anything.
