That's true but Mary is also the Queen of HIP-HOP Soul...Mary's voice/emotion saves her, it embodies Soul in every aspect.

I guess if we aren't sticking to a criteria of SOUL singer/voice and essence then Ashanti and Aaliyah can get the award but I wanted them to award the girls who are really Soul singers and don't get the recognition on a daily like Tamia, Chante Moore, Amy Winehouse, Roberta Flack, Angie Stone, India A, Rachelle Ferrell, Corinne B, etc

ALL of it! Black girls don't just have to be associated with SOUL to be singers. I.E. Ciara, Ashanti, Rihanna, Kelly Rowland, Raven Symone.
