I wonder if that was deliberate or if she's suffered a vocal injury of sorts

Honestly she sounds like she drinks a lot and should cut back. That'll dry them vocals out more than anything else can, on top of potentially injuring her chords

This is probably it. During the Breakthrough and Growing Pains era she had stopped drinking completely but I think she has been drinking too much again since her marriage fell apart. She always out partying and drunk these days.

Every time i see a viral clip of her, it's something I've noticed. As a singer or anyone that uses their voice to do anything, it's just not a good idea to drink that often (if she does).

She is definitely drinking. She said in interviews years back she started drinking again but only a glass or two on special occasions. I think she started spiraling when her marriage broke down.

I don't get it. She sounded good live just a few weeks ago. How can they OK these fried vocals?

I'm guessing this was recorded a while back and they didn't want to re-record everything.

I admit there are a couple of songs where her vocals are strained but overall I don't get the reviews from the collective on here. Granted, when your benchmark is theVocal Bible I can understand the negativity around some vocal imperfections. The days of her hitting those Mariah Carey notes are gone.

But yea it's not the skill or range that's her problem. I actually think she's doing some good runs and I heard a nice head voice note or 2. It's just the tone/timbre of her voice throughout that's unpleasant. She used to have a very soulful tone

I can definitely agree with the statement about her soulful tone. THAT has definitely changed. Her voice is more airy now. I don't think it's basically trash as some has alluded to, but it has indeed  changed.

She sounds just like Mariah. 😊

Ive never listened to a Mary album from start to finish. So I really only know her singles. But Im starting to listen to the songs on this and I can already tell her voice is in a much different shape. Shes sounding ashy like Whitney sounded on her Look To You project. I dont mind it as much cause Ive never gone up for MJB vocally like that, but yeah, something is off.

I've been playing this album all day!! Definitely her best album in a while.
Need love with Usher is just 🔥🔥🔥🔥 he sounds good af. The entire album is good, the worst song is that Amazing song. Solid album otherwise.
