Well, for one, the Olympics didnt ban Shacarri. The USA Track and Field organization did. Shacarri couldve even still competed at the Olympics in the team event and she wasnt cooperating and decided that she wasnt gonna go. She made that decision.
Secondly, minors testing positive for banned substances, even in track and field, the athletes are treated differently, because they are minors. A 15 yr old isnt walking into a back alley purchasing steroids with the same ease that a 21 yr old can. Some of the times, minors get tested pos unbeknownst to them. Parents trust coaches and the coaches give them stuff that are banned. At 15 yrs old, we cant expect her to have the capacity to decipher certain things. Even tho she could, as with everything, minors are treating differently, even when it comes to the law.
Third, they are still investigating her situation. With Shacarri, she came right on out and said "Im a grown ass woman and yes I did smoke marijuana". Theres no guilty until proven innocent there. She pled guilty.
And lastly, the article clearly states that even tho she will compete, if they complete investigations and she is found guilty, then she wont be getting her medals. The same thing happened to other track and field stars from the US too. Another popular 100m hurdler (a black woman) booked her ticket to the Olympics last yr but she was under investigation while competing, but she was allowed to compete. She was founded guilty after the trials, is now banned for 5 yrs and wasnt allowed to compete at Tokyo.
Shacarri is just doing what Shacarri does. Being a fucking mess on social media and unfortunately ppl who dont know anything about the sport(s) are up in fumes and ready to pull out the race card.
