This was originally her planned lead single for her debut solo album. She was going in a new direction musically for her debut.

Love this song now but back then I was like :uhh: what the hell is this?
She and Mathew were smart though to have it attached to the movie so heavily so they could play it off since it flopped

As much as I liked it, I remember hearing it and thinking "this is....different" it made sense for the Austin Powers soundtrack but wasn't the tea I was expecting from Bey at all.
