The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has "initiated disciplinary proceedings" against actor Will Smith over his actions at Sunday's Oscars, the group announced on Wednesday.

"Board of Governors today initiated disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Smith for violations of the Academy's Standards of Conduct, including inappropriate physical contact, abusive or threatening behavior, and compromising the integrity of the Academy," the organization behind the Oscars said in a statement.

The statement also claims that Smith was asked to leave the ceremony after the incident "and refused." The Academy said it also recognizes "we could have handled the situation differently."

I know people criticize other celebs for the standing ovation but I honestly think there were a lot of people in the room..friends and colleagues..who were worried he was having a mental breakdown. And to have someone like Denzel step in and talk to him means a lot. I'm sure after that talk he calmed down.

My guess is this moment for Will was the straw that broke the camel's back. There must be a lot stress and pain behind the scenes we don't know about.

Still I'm surprised no one really checked on Chris. It looked very staged at first, so maybe people were just in shock.
