I suppose because there's not much money to be made in the streaming era so this gives them guaranteed/instant money vs. a small amount over a period of time that could amount to peanuts.

Because as opposed to them getting let's say 15K - 20K per quater for residuals, they can get a big sum now and use it for something they need now. They may not be able to see that amount that they selling it for until over a span over their lifetime.

It seems like it makes the most sense to own your masters but sell at the right time these days. Unless physical sales dominate, streaming probably won't make much money for individual artists.

the lump sum could def translate to generational wealth as well if she just handles it/invests it right
