It's exactly what first came to mind for me

It's the OPTICS in consideration of BOTH involved. Not just one or the other.
im sorry but it makes sense.

i was drawing a blank until i actually started watching the video footage that Chris posted. and then the reason immediately hit me as i WATCHED it.

he immediately contacted the higher ups at Disney and ABC about the "optics" of the performance.

The more I think about it the more I actually find a reason

U have one highly controversial artist paying tribute to another highly controversial artist .

One could argue that there's no smoking gun for Michaels mess which is true . It was never proven. But sometimes perception overrides reality/facts.

This possible reason didn't hit me (no pun) until I started watching the performance footage he posted .

Not saying I agree with the decision to cancel cuz personally I wouldn't have cared but for those desperately looking for a reason or possible explanation that's something to consider IMO

They could have had second thoughts regarding the OPTICS of it all. And I stress the word "optics" cuz I swear that didn't cross my mind til I actually saw the tribute in motion .

And I'm glad they used the word "alleged" with Michael.

that is correct language to use, as it was never proven. there were allegations against him which severely tarnished his reputation
i can't say he molested those kids but i unfortunately i can't say that he didn't either.

it's just about how everything looks.

again, sometimes perception overrides reality/facts...or what has yet to be proven.

it's unfortunate for both of them. for michael because maybe he didn't touch those kids and his tribute was cancelled

and for chris because he clearly wants to tribute his idol but his own past is coming back to haunt him in a crazy way.

it just sucks for everyone involved but i understand it.

Who cares? He beat up Rihanna pretty bad and the general public shouldn't have to forgive him if they do not want to. This situation speaks to how violence is okay in the black community.

I'd say this was def a business decision. not an attack on chris or even michael tbh.

a wise decision IMO if im removing my heart and love for mike/ chris's music completely and just thinking logically.

This is Disney/ABC. You have to remember that as well.

The Rihanna incident is only year in the timeline of Chris' horrendous antics. He had a 10-year spree of being a menace that was allowed because he is attractive. Now at 35 he is redeemed with no accountability. That's how we coddle black straight men.

Why hire him to began with based on the optics? Did the CEO discovered Chris Brown's past behavior hours before the show?  If anything, this will work in Chris' favor because people will feel bad for him totally neglecting his past faults. So the the decision actually helped Chris.

oh i agree that chris is def coddled too much.

i absolutely love him as an artist but im not going to bat for him as a person.

the stuff he's willingly put out there to shade black women is inexcusable and indefensible in my book.

they (ABC/Disney execs) still wanted Chris to perform ...but the tribute would have too much MESS in one place. they described the combo as potentially "radioactive"

that's exactly how i felt. but the exact words that came to my mind were "problematic OVERLOAD". sdnsndsndnsdsnddsdsn

i blame the show producers, not ABC  .

if i, as an ordinary ass citizen could watch that footage chris posted and immediately see the fucking issue
how the FUCK didn't they see this at least possibly coming and get a green light from ABC execs in ADVANCE of chris preparing for weeks?

Once the executives found out about the performance, they immediately told the producers to cut the tribute as a whole. The producers were reportedly furious at the decision to axe the performance because they knew the backlash they would receive, but after calls with multiple executives through the company they decided that Chris could still perform, but he couldn't do the tribute because it would be too "radioactive".

They tried to come up with an alternative plan, but Chris said it's all or nothing for him— either he does the performance he planned on doing or he won't perform at all. So, he didn't perform and posted the rehearsal footage on his Instagram.

not some "oh btw chris brown is payin tribute to michael!" mess sent in the final hour to fucking DISNEY execs.
