i wouldn't compare a delivery driver to a waiter though

With a waiter they're judged on so many things throughout an experience that lasts up to an hour or more

How many times did they check on our table?
Did THEY write down the order correctly ?
Were they polite during the experience ?

But an Ubereats driver literally has one job. Get the food from point A to point B.

It's rare that I've encountered a driver that managed to fuck up that super simple task .

did you ensure you grabbed my full order, did you get it here in a timely manner, did you handle the order with care or is all my food stuck to one side of the container cuz you was throwing it around, did you follow my drop off instructions

so it's nice for YOU that you haven't encountered many issues, but as listed above, there are plenty of things to consider for deliver persons

and at the end of the day tips are based on level of service period, so nobody owes you a tip BEFORE the service has even been completed.

if items are missing im checking with the restaurant and holding them accountable .

Especially if it's something missing inside of the tightly sealed bag/box that the driver is unable to inspect and that I wouldn't even want them to try and inspect.

I'd rather the driver not search through my food to make sure everything's there. That's not their job. Especially considering they are NOT an employee of the restaurant in question. Which is yet another huge difference between a waiter and an ubereats driver .

b) i was referring to situations like making sure the drink is retrieved with the order, etc. not picking through the bag to make sure they put cheese on the mess 

most times I've used the service my food has been delivered in one piece with no issue

Enough for me to assume the same will happen each time .

I'm not standing around with a checklist for me to find a reason not to tip a driver .

Unless the experience was just unusually horrid . In which case I can always go back and edit the tip.

But generally I assume everything will go OK and tip beforehand so I don't forget or neglect to tip afterwards.

And them seeing my tip beforehand will only potentially improve the experience .

a) YOUR experience and what YOU practice is fine for YOU. that's YOU. that's not everyone's experience/practice.

b) no one is "sitting around looking for reasons not to tip." that's a mischaracterization. i listed out the valid reasons someone waits to tip until AFTER the tipped service has actually been performed.

That's how my grandmother always did things though when I was a child .

She wasn't rich or ballin outta control and making it rain on the gorls , but making sure the delivery person got a tip was always important to her .. to show them appreciation .

If we ever ordered anything , she had a tip ready in advance for the person soon as she hung up the phone from placing the order . Never an afterthought or "if they deserve one they'll get one" kinda attitude .

It was literally a standard . Ordering food? Don't forget the tip .

That kinda stuck with me.

It's really unfair to fault the customer because of the companies shitty pay

yea. Obviously i think one should tip if we can and the service wasn't exceptionally bad, but we should rather advocate for a pay that is enough to sustain a certain living standard without having to depend on tips.

Yeah and I can understand taking it personally to a degree, but I've never met anyone going into uber expecting to become a millionaire

i think it's less about getting rich and more about feeling insulted

A 40 minute trip for $3 is an insult .

Before I order I always check the distance , between my place and the restaurant , especially for smaller orders.

and especially since I literally live in the middle of the city where traffic can get insane .

Just cuz ubereats allows me to do unreasonable mess , like making a $10 order from a store/restaurant 20 miles away ... doesn't mean i should do it

I try to be considerate of those who serve me in any way I can . Aside from the tip itself , that's a huge way to show appreciation for them.

I don't want ubereats drivers to be unhappy and quit . Then I'd have to go out in blazing heat and frosty cold to get my lil treats myself . I like my occasional lazy days and want them to stay 100% lazy.

They provide a very useful  and valuable service and if the company isn't rewarding them for it , I will do so as long as I choose to depend on them .
