ive seen a lot of people talk about this, but i like her take on the mess the most.
its very FAIR. she actually touched on the fact that its awesome that we're familiar enough with one another to call complete strangers "auntie" or people who aren't related to us "sister" and "brother"...but the FLIP side to that is that we may get too comfortable with each other.
specifically when it comes to dealing with one another in business transactions. you might not feel a need to be super professional and "code switch" in front of your "auntie" . but auntie may be expecting the same treatment that bob and sally got during their interactions with you. and auntie has every right to expect that.
the lines become blurred sometimes. boundaries become blurred. she worded it perfectly.
such an intelligent way to explore and explain this as opposed to all of the simple "black people dont like each other and dont know how to treat each other!" narratives.
