Back in 2013, our founder Solange, took to Twitter to share a few of her thoughts on the current state of music. How did you feel about her comments in terms of your deep album cuts and music journalists not really understanding or capturing the essence of R&B culture?


I remember feeling just so flattered and appreciating her for loving music, and also for being brave enough to stand up for what real art is. I?m a fan of Solange?s as well. I just love that she?s able to speak up for all of us and have our backs even when we feel like we can?t have our own backs. She?s always spoke highly of me, and I always return the love and ReTweet and ReGram everything she does. So, that made me feel very, very good. Being the artist that she is and being connected to her sister, if I had a little self esteem issue, that boosted me up real quick!

A lot of the rants I didn't post, but someone basically pissed her off saying she shouldn't "bite the hand that feeds her", meaning white media

And she's not telling one lie tbh. Even taking Ghan out of the equation, I'm so sick of these white indie male artists thinking they're the end all be all. Just b/c their rich parents gave them some money to move to a cabin for a year and record an album on their macbook in the woods they think they're some kind of visionaries 

What do they know about struggle or soul? And most of them can't hardly sing. It makes me sick that the majority of whites hop on that train and blow smoke up their asses. Most of my friends are white and they're taste in music is SHIT tbqfh.

It's funny though, when that Ghan interview with Pitchfork came out I got like 6 texts from different people. They can only support if they think it's got some sort of indie cred. Dumbasses.
