And i need to reiterate that I am not in here telling people how to identify

Im not one to gatekeep certain things vehemently because in doing so there's an underlying sense that there is some sort of value worth protecting .

I do believe in letting people identify how they want .

It's more about chillis history for me. I think of how they things she does and says can affect deeply melanated black women, and unambiguously Black women who look up to Chilli.

That is my concern. That is what's important . Not which Starbucks flavor or specific shade of brown she wants to pick.

I can only see what I see from my POV

I say everyone identify how they want but just remember how people see u in the real world outside of yourself kinda matters too

this is kinda the reason I wouldn't get too hung up on which shade of brown someone's claiming

Cuz it's so subjective

This makeup company sells this color as "caramel" and IMO it kinda matches chillis complexion. So there's literally makeup out there she can buy that tells her she's "caramel"

And she never looks like she wears makeup lighter than her complexion. Like when some gorls clearly get a tea 10 shades lighter than their skin.

But When I think caramel , I think more of a golden color . But that's just me. Again , very subjective.

I think a lot of other people commenting on this story  are thinking about that more golden color as well  .

To me the real problem is literally chilli just feeling a need to say " I am NOT chocolate". That's what rubs me the wrong way. Especially considering her history.
