Brandy has used the "I don't understand social media" excuse before, but I call bullshit. There was a time when she was active and used humor amongst other things for engagement. Why not acknowledge your legacy?
It's really annoying af tbh. This is my favorite album of hers and what actually made me a stan. A simple post at minimum would've been cute, she acknowledged it for the 18th anni...
I hear this all the time, why? What was it that made it official. I had the opposite reaction being fan since her debut I was not feeling this sound in the beginning. I hated the videos and her look. It took awhile before I started to enjoy the album.
Quote from: Harlem on July 01, 2024, 12:44:32 PMDidn't Timbaland post during the b7 drop, highlighting her video of recording Borderline?!
Yes! And was under her post trying to get the studio with her before the album dropped.
For me, it was the switch-up of working with hotter producers like Timbaland, Ye, & Organized Noise. She was finally giving more "organic, raw, hot, mature" album vibes. Brandy has always been so safe and comfortable until that era and I lived! I loved TAOL when it dropped it was so on point with the new wave of Ye shit at that time. The video/making the video was everything
And honestly, her topics were deeper and her voice sounded more rich and raspy. Like I wish I could go back and listen to WIS2U, I Tried, WYWB, Focus, Come As You Are, Finally, and Should I Go for the first time... I was stannin and she sampled Coldplay?! You couldn't tell me she wasn't bout to have a Confessions moment too that year. But the rollout post-TAOL was disappointing. She should've given dark and moody down. And she needed to keep that tig ol bitties baby weight she had at the 02 VMAs if she wanted to give "sexy"
"I Tried" should've had a theatrical Hype Williams video and ran TRL/106 countdowns on some Ashanti Rain On Me shit. She needed a solidified bop as "Come As U Are" (maybe with a 50 or Lloyd Banks feature) for Hot 97 and Urban Radios to eat up during the summer. Put out "Where You Wanna Be" for the fall for some smooth vibes especially with Ye being on fire. So many missed opportunities but she did bring in a new wave of fans and respect especially those that were missing that Aaliyah-esque sound with the R&B girls
