The Only BLACK Kalmyks

Project started: 2014 Wrapped up: 2024

Significant Discovery: First known Black American family of Kalmyk descent

Takeaways: Be prepared to pivot, even when you think you're on the right track. Be OK with being wrong so you can get things right.

Kalmyks are tribal Mongolic people who settled in Russia. It's estimated that only 300,000 Kalmyk descendants exist worldwide - with only 3,000 in America.

Am I in the twilight zone or something? We will be supporting the Bengals, Colts, Lions, and Ravens from now on.

We gotta remember who owns these football teams and controls most of the NFL .

Rich, old white men who would mostly lean republican/conservative

This isn't surprising.

They can mourn and cry all they want, and then after every tear is wept ...still will have to look to their Republican brethren who raised the young man who killed him and ask why.

A moment of silence from a few football teams isn't exactly what some of you thought this would turn into. Some of you spoke to how the current administration could use this killing to further agendas - not how many candlelight vigils would spring up as a result.

And here is more context:

15 teams were given the option to hold the moment of silence this week. 10 decided to, 5 didn't.

Again, none of this should be surprising considering old rich white men control most of the NFL.

We lean into dramatizing certain updates which is understandable considering most of it is pushed in front of us to garner that reaction, and sometimes even framed in a specific way to do that. But I'd encourage everyone to look at facts and keep logic in the center.

I see, for me it's also about his corpse being transported to and fro on Air Force 2, this word "assassination", flags flying half mast, calling him a founding father, comparing him to MLK, etc. To me, this is all way disproportionate praise and attention for a popular podcaster.
