I always wondered how other artists felt about Brandy lip syncing

Rehearsals are one thing, and the actual performance is another. I feel like footage of live singing
while in rehearsal is just to put a "well maybe she does actually sing it live while on stage" out there.

But if you know, you know. The quality of the prerecorded vocals are not the same as when she starts talking to the crowd into the same mic. The prerecorded vocals are too clean, and then when she talks, the quality is not the same. From the EQ to the Compression, to the room, etc.

Does she not have background singers?

Kalifornia.

The only reason I bought tickets to the tour is because I doubt we'll see Brandy on a stage touring with big production like that again. So I wanted to have that experience at least once.

Other than that, I most likely wouldn't have gone. The lipping is a huge turn off for me. Maybe if she put more work into making it look less obvious that would help.

I think the mic is on, just auto-tuned and filtered to hell

Quote from: Hatsumomo on July 22, 2026, 12:30:49 PMBrandy can sing live easily for extended periods of time. She's just obsessed with perfection. but those pre-recorded vocals ain't it

Easily? Not this current state of Brandy.

I've noticed the few times that she has sung live, her voice is very airy (not in a good way), low and husky. It made me think that she's lost her good singing voice entirely. However, her pre-recorded vocals are stellar...so she still has it in her.

She's so quick to address the comments about her physical appearance by reposting glammed up photos, how about she put in the same effort in proving that she is still that bih with live vocals?!?
I mean the pre-records are still her voice and she sounds agile
Quote from: Ulysses on July 22, 2026, 05:46:27 PMFor real though, she may NOT be able to give a live vocal anymore. The last one was 6 years ago and was not filmed with an audience and was done in multiple clips. Then the last one before that was more than 8 years ago at Tiny Desk and she underwhelmed. Say it isn't true, Queen  :'(
She was singing live and mellow at them Stella Rosa events...take what mama gives you and bow down to the kween

Quote from: Harlow on July 22, 2026, 06:29:10 PMSome of you may find this hard to believe but Brandy's mic is actually on during her performances. Her choreographers JR and Ashley have both posted raw footage from her rehearsals and performances . You can hear her singing live as well as the backing tracks playing in the background . I believe the issue is the backing tracks. She has never relied on them for past performances. I think she does more so now because of all of the choreography she has to do during her shows. I want her to find a balance with the choreography and begin performing with a live band again. I hope she does for her South Africa shows. I also want her to utilize June's Diary more. They can handle all of the background vocals. In my opinion, she does not need the backing tracks for her performances.
Her mic don't be on baby and she doesn't like background singers b/c they usually fuck it up and she wants her own to be heard. Bran will have to take time to find the right ones, rehearse, arrange the vocals and pay them and mama dnt wanna do that

Quote from: Quest on July 22, 2026, 06:25:30 PMShe sang the national anthem live at that football game...that was maybe 2 or 3 years ago.
Oh yeah. That was over 4 years ago now. That was actually our last live vocal. It was decent.

Ppl stay getting the vocal bible title definition wrong. It is accurate whether they like it or not. Brandy is the ultimate source material for ALL these singers and will remain even when she is called to glory.
I think her being heavily copied pisses her off on the low which is why she changes her singing style. Bc she said something on the Kempire interview she did for b7 that she "hid" something vocally on the album.

Anyway Brandy watches and reads so I want her to take from all this to cut out the autotune mic and filters. It is not needed sis. It is your tone bby and ur interpretive singing that set u apart from the crowd. So hiding that with filters is insane

I saw someone break it down. And they said this too it is an autotune mic and that Victoria, Chris brown and many are using

Quote from: Harlem on July 22, 2026, 05:08:19 PMMy issue with Brandy is that she relied on it too much that now it became this conversation amongst fans and GP... if she gave a good live lashing vocal here and there (like during the 2/11 era) I don't think ppl would care as much especially for like TV and some tour moments when it's necessary

Right it is too much. Whether she is going in between lipping and an autotune mic. It is laziness on her part too. Brandy don't like to change and she been doing it since Afro.
The Afro pre records were better bc she didn't drown them out with filters. Baby Brandy is my fave bc she didn't know about lipping then

This is why I want her to start performing with a live band again. I enjoyed the production from the tour and her recent performances but I believe the way it currently structured restricts her a lot. When she performs with her band she seems a lot more free and she is able to experiment live on stage. She allows her voice to become one with the instruments by being in tune with what she hears. Thinking back to when she did broadway, even though there was a script she had to adhere to, the producers allow her to experiment and bring her own brandyims to the songs she sang. That stood out to me and a lot of people and why I think her time on broadway was successful. I want her to bring that same technique to her performances. I want her to incorporate her own style back into her performances.

Brandy takes away so much about what makes her HER with the lipping and autotune mic (when she uses it). She annoyed me when she got on the Soul Train stage and lipped to a robotic ass Say Something pre record. A song where she is vocally begging then cocky then got vocal attitude on. But u couldn't get none of that from the lipped robotic ass performance. That song is peak Brandyism subtle to convey the lyrics

The pre records and Frank's choreo restrict her so much. U can tell she making sure to focus on both than being free. I hope these lashings get her in order bc how u an emotive singer but strip away that to sound like a robot  :-/ She is frustrating
