"Shame" wasn't critically acclaimed or that popular. I knew D'Angelo was going to win. The critics raved about his album.

that song was #1 on R&B charts for WEEKS! Even Steve Harvey was on the radio talking about how it should be played on pop radio because it's that good, and how he wanted to reach out to ryan seacrest. D'angelo's album sucked and imo he got those grammys based soley on the fact that he's a grammy favorite. There are certain artists that they love and will award them for belching on a damn track. That album was disgusting

Which makes a difference. Their total audience impressions (outreach) are much lower than the URBAN chart.
Which could explain why most people do not know the song or did it not appear to be that "popular", especially if it never crossed over to URBAN stations, let alone mainstream stations.

But Ty has talked about this so much, to the point where it borderlines promo... and more people will eventually get in and support.
