She had every right to be shocked.

I think the shocking part for her was how CLOSE slavery actually was to her generation, not that they originate from Africa

n

If my Great Grandma told me she was a slave or ran from slavery I'd be in tears too.
That hits CLOSE

Why was Tamera was shocked? ALL Black people are come from Africa and ended up in the Caribbean, S.America and America due to the slave trade, that's like basic history :everythingok: are they teaching you guys in school over there?

She's shocked because she thinks she's white

"I'm really black? r u sure?"

Herb.

Not every black persons line of their family includes slavery though
There were many free people of color ... My grandmother has ancestors who were FPOC on her fathers side of the family.
Then she had Native family on her moms side that I traced back several generations.

That is my mothers mother. I don't know if there were any slaves in her Direct Ancestral line tbh. And I went back 5+ generations from her birth.  That's not to say they didn't exist. I just couldn't find receipts .

But I definitely know MY fathers side of the family is descendants of slaves.
I am a descendant of slaves. And I'm proud of it. My family overcame many obstacles to eventually OWN the land we were enslaved on.

Being black doesn't automatically mean you will find slaves in your timeline though.

I do agree thAt no black person should be SHOCKED that there's a slave in their family history :dead:

But Tamera grew up in Disneyland . Where these things don't exist
Cut her some slack

im about to watch the clip

If she was emotional I can definitely understand that

I've cried a few times while doing my genealogy .

Herb.

Watching now.

Adrienne and the others were shocked at the Native American results
But people often associate the term Native American with the tribes of NORTH America , in the states.
Cherokee, Choctaw, etc.

That's not what the test is picking up.
It's picking up ancestry from SOUTH America.
Mestizo, etc.
which is perfectly normal for a Latina.

I learned that Many NORTH American Native tribes in the states REFUSE to offer their samples to these DNA companies.
The Chiefs of these tribes have heavily forbidden it.

so traditional genealogy is anyone's best bet to confirming Native heritage.
Which is confirming through family names and location.
If the heritage is close enough it shouldn't be hard to find evidence.
That is the only receipt a tribe will accept for admittance.

I hope she doesn't think she's white AND Cherokee now.  :plzstop:

Herb.

Tamera omg  :'( :'( :'( :'(

I know the feeling she's making me wanna cry

It's one thing to read about slavery
But it's another to KNOW ur family was definitely out there with no freedom and no fucking life.
Just living to serve someone. No existence no fucking name
Just listed as property along with sheep and fucking cows

It makes my blood BOIL thinking About it
