Afro luv, how do I use the search database on AncestryDNA?
I have the World Explorer subscription but I'm not find anything
the guy from customer service explained that this subscription covers the U.S. and international.
AncestryDNA and the Ancestry site are separate, make sure you're on Ancestry.com . I'm not familiar with World Explorer but I know with the US version it pretty much asks you for names, etc. You do have to know a bit of information to start with .... like I called my Granny up and got some names she knew, started from there...then you begin tracking back.
Do you know the names of the people you're looking for? And do they have spaces where you can enter it? Screenshot it for me lil sis maybe if I see what you're looking at I can be more helpful.
omm see this is the issue
my family is so secretive
Like I don't even know my dad's birth name
Outside of my maternal grandfather's name I don't know anything.
I searched my parents names and their marriage license popped up and also the previous places they lived but that's it
I searched my grandfather and I only got a record of him living here in Texas back in the early 90's. I mean, I didn't know he was her that early on but I guess that's something. I will say tho last time I put in my grandfather's name it popped up that he was in states back in the 60's. I don't see it anymore when I search his name now tho
I think I'm gonna have a sit down with my parents and some relatives cause I literally don't know anything
I wanna be able to go back generations.
My friend @ work is facing the same dilemma. She wants to know more about her family but for some reason her family's real hush hush about everything lol.
You're gonna find a lot of value in the cousin matches that AncestryDNA gives you with the test. IT lists people who have taken the test who have similar DNA to yours, and it goes by estimated degree of relation...3rd cousin, 4th cousin, etc.
It's accurate as well. I've had a few people message me and they all were connected to my father in some way.
Like legit connected, they knew names, places, etc. only things people within my family would know.
Using that tool will help you learn more about your family. And you have your grandfathers name, that's not a bad place to start at all. It also depends on how many generations your family has been in one place, did they relocate a lot, etc.
I don't really ask but there's somethings I should know like I don't know my grandparents names on my dad's side. I mean, I never asked but still

I just seen pics and heard my dad talk about them before jfjfj I know my maternal grandma's name but she also went by a nickname and she was here only once. I guess Ancestry doesn't keep track of visits from outside countries? Cause I didn't find my aunts info. I guess they have to be a citizen?

I also noticed that they spelled Ethiopia and the capital Addis Ababa wrong in some images so I can see that interfering.

I also tried to do a search on my uncle who lived in Russia at one point but nothing popped up. All this confusion but omfff I'm so excited for the cousin matches omgggg

I think that may open the gates to knowing more about my dad's side of my family. I'm so excited omffffff
As for relocation, I know so far that they all were born and raised in Ethiopia. My dad's side are the ones that I think moved around a lot. Like my grandfather and grandmother on that side aren't even full Ethiopian from what my parents have told me.
Sis I'm going to cry when I finally get my kit omf

I need to know the tea. I'm too excited. Hold me
