A 24-year-old Port St. Lucie man on foot was killed by a passing vehicle on Interstate 95 early Sunday morning, Florida Highway Patrol says.

Cedrick Wilcox Jr. was standing next to a stopped vehicle on the shoulder of northbound I-95 near mile marker 89, just north of the Palm Beach-Martin county line. Wilcox was struck by a 2001 Acura around 5:45 a.m., FHP spokesman Mark Wysocky said.

Wilcox had been a passenger in the stopped vehicle but had entered the outside travel lane before he was struck.

The Acura was being driven by Leonid Koltun, 76, and Sofiya Gleyzer, 74, both of Newton, Mass.

Wilcox was transported to St. Mary?s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, where he was pronounced dead.

FHP is still investigating the cause of the crash, Wysocky said.
