But that was her thing and those songs were hits. Huge ones. Her voice was always thin and late. Like the ability is there. She has range but her tone sucks. That's why she couldn't perform live in her earlier career.  Irv gave her that airy falsetto tone that could only be produced in a studio. Her actual singing voice didn't quite give that.

If she wasn't signed to Murder Inc, she'd just be another R&B chick from the 2000s. Her writing and artistry now is indicative of that. And even then, her writing was extremely basic. I remember people used to go up for it. ANYBODY can write an Ashanti song.
