I think what's unsettling, is how fast the car was going or steep that driveway is...
To cause that much damage to him... even tho it was a brick mailbox.
It wouldn't won't make sense unless we see the area.

I see now how it could have happened, in a way.
The speed of the vehicle couldn't have been so fast.
But the jeep did weigh 2 tons.

He must've gotten out of his car to lock the gate or something and the truck built a lot of momentum at the last minute.

He should've been able to dodge it.
Plus if the car was in neutral when he exited he would've seen and felt it moving
