I feel like the mess needs to go with your facial features too. Some ppl have a phenotype where  you just know that is never ever their natural hair, or could go with their look. Mixed people are allowed to do more afrocentric looks as well as non-black looks that represent their other side as well. But if you are white with dreads or bantu knots or mahagony black with a platinum blonde relaxed mess, then I think it is a little different.

No. I don't "relax" my hair, as in on a regular basis. I have done it about 5 or 6 times in my life. Sometimes when I know I will wear braids soon and I grow my hair longer I decide to relax it, cause it gets more voluminous. It is most of the time a pre-cornrows look. But yeah I have relaxed it before also to just switch up my look. Overall I would not advise it, often I regret it, because it takes even more grooming now than before, cause it gets dry.

To get it all glossy and Persian like that, takes ages in the bathroom.

I've noticed that it seems socially more acceptable for black men in other countries to press and color their hair than in America.

I have a cousin with a TERRIBLE grade of hair. Literally looks like taco meat when grown out.  I would never advise or advocate him growing that mess out.  It don't look good imo. I see memes all the time about women wanting black guys to go back to the low cut with waves. Some women just like a clean cut look and all the rage now is this grown out wild shit. All of this shit is more preference and not at all related to self hate imo. It definitely aint equivalent to no fckn skin bleaching. These examples
