Yeah, but I don't think it had to do anything with how I grew up like I used to think.

A bunch of other children who got whipped I know are still in jail and dead
yeah, i don't understand how ppl say beatings shaped them to be who they are today, especially if they're proud of who they are

I think some parents use spanking too often.

I understand using them as a last resort, and I'm not against whippings but if your first instinct is t smack the shit out of your child then there's something wrong with you.

FINE.

My mother would READ me then I would SUCCUMB to her lashings which made it worse

I would act out every once in a blue though. I barely remember the times

Demm_

Nah. My mom would threaten me and I'd be like

"okay...girl...u got it"

Because it teaches you to respect and submit to authority, and consider consequences for your actions.  The threat of violence is very compelling.  :dead:

Now, I do think there is a right way and wrong way to hit your kids.  Everyone beating their kids isn't actually helping them.  Further, I think you shouldn't rely of hitting as the ONLY, or even primary, form of discipline.  To raise reasonable adults, you have to learn to talk to them and teach them in other ways.  Especially when they get older.

Once kids are teens, I think hitting them is pretty useless except for flagrant offenses.  If you did your job from birth to age 13, they really shouldn't need to be hit often, IMO.  When my mom hit me during my teens, she was just channeling anger and pissing me off, instead of teaching me anything.  :overit:

My mom had the nerve to say she didn't beat us that much.

My brother and I were like :omgwatshappening:  Are you senile?

She was strict and went overboard on minor stuff sometimes.  But I'd be lying if I said I never reconsidered doing something wrong or stupid because I knew I'd catch a beat down if she found out.  :dead:

it always seemed like someone teaching their kid to use violence as a solution to a problem, rather than words.

If I ever got beat, about an hour or two later my Dad would come IN and talk to me and tell why what I did was wrong and what he expects etc etc.
He'd pick me up and kiss me and say he loved me.

I would always learn.
But I'd fine new ways to try it :plzstop:

The biggest Kii are the parents that don't understand why an 8 year old is crying while getting beat

'Why u crying! stop all that crying!"

:plzstop:

My mom used to be all kinds of "black bitches" when she left the room

Thank GOD she never heard me
