I'm glad I did my genealogy. I honestly can't remember being this happy in my life.

There's definitely a difference between claiming mess just to claim it and feel superior to others, and really wanting to KNOW who you are. And not stopping your research even when you THINK you have figured out the answer.

I didn't stop and now I know. :stressed:
I know every piece of what I'm looking at in the mirror everyday. That may sound funny but it means so much to me. More than I imagined it ever could.

The hilarious part is that my fam is from NC, and had homes in a city named Carolina in Puerto Rico. :plzstop: :plzstop: :plzstop:

I swear, the next vacation I take will be  NOWHERE but Carolina PR.

Am proud African American and proud of my Boricua roots!!!!

i'm happy for too but you do this in every race thread :mmywheresddy:

I don't get this thing that you guys say Afro-Caribbean gorls think they are better than you. If you come to the Caribbean it's the exact opposite. You come here with an American accent and you'll be treated a million times better than the locals are, no matter how black you are...

Not if ya gay

Well yeah...that's true. But the only country with any real violence against gays is Jamaica. In Guyana, Trinidad, Barbados, etc. you might be heckled or taunted, but no one would physically attack you. And even taunting and heckling rarely happens here in Guyana anymore. Attitudes are changing and the younger generation is leading the charge. The gorls walk down the streets holding hands, showing PDA and stuff like that these days. Jamaica is a nightmare though. I wouldn't be against nuking them and starting from scratch.

ffff

I just watched a doc about Jamaica and other homophobic African countries on "abominable" crime.S eeing all the narratives of SGL people trying to seek asylum in inclusive countries because people were trying and killing them left and right. It was sad. I felt so privileged but I also wanted to wipe Jamaica out.

I'm cracking up @ "We're all black! one in the same!" FOH and please cut the bullshit. AA's treat Africans in general different so it's no We're all black! Kumbaya! mess. Even if you were born here they will ask you right off the bat "Where are you from?" like you're not American citizen and treat you like you're not black AND remind you that you're not super nigger like them.

But I digress, I def. do see Africans an AA's separately. All the Caribbeans I have met blend in well with the AA's tho. There aren't many here in the south.

well my gripe is

those africans know what went down in america

so why the fuck u here now?

seems like they wanna reap the benefits of a people they low key (sometimes hi key) despise

so yeah i dont blame em

where u from witcho off da boat lookin self

why wouldn't they be there?

Cause they werent born here
What the purpose of their travels?
to work and study perhaps

I mean ... it's been imbedded in us

i remember growing up the girls were clamoring to find White/Indian/or even Mexican relatives

And that somehow made them prettier or more attractive than those of us who were just .... black :dead:

Coupled with the fact American history is littered with hints that "black" is bad (modern Christianity)

I remember visiting vacation bible school at like 8 and the teacher making the point that anything black was dark and ... evil

I kinda just shifted in my seat, but I felt bad lol
:hmph:

I don't think that's Christianity.  That's the English language.  The use of "black" as a synonym for evil and white with purity.  It is pretty deep, though.  "Black magic" "blackmail" ect...
