Rihanna's single "Needed Me" has spent 16 weeks in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 thus far, which has set a record: it has totaled the most weeks in the top 10 without going top five. It passes Kelly Clarkson's "Behind These Hazel Eyes," which peaked at No. 6 and spent 15 weeks in the top 10 in 2005. "Needed Me" has reached No. 7 on the Hot 100 so far.

That song is resilient
It's been on the charts for 30+ weeks I believe. And STILL in the Top 10.

It's actually an unique record to make.
Most Top 10 hits that don't hit Top 5 are IN and OUT within 1-5 weeks.

Weeks in top 10, Title, Artist, Peak Pos., Peak Date
16, "Needed Me," Rihanna, No. 7, July 2, 2016
15, "Behind These Hazel Eyes," Kelly Clarkson, No. 6, June 11, 2005
14, "Team," Lorde, No. 6, March 15, 2014
13, "Home," Phillip Phillips, No. 6, Jan. 19, 2013
13, "I'm Yours," Jason Mraz, No. 6, Sept. 20, 2008
13, "The Way You Love Me," Faith Hill, No. 6, Jan. 13, 2001
12, "Me, Myself & I," G-Eazy x Bebe Rexha, No. 7, March 12, 2016
12, "Demons," Imagine Dragons, No. 6, Dec. 7, 2013
12, "As Long as You Love Me," Justin Bieber feat. Big Sean, No. 6, Sept. 29, 2012

I didn't think it'd catch on like that
especially since KIB didn't

I think KIB should've been a stand alone last single from the era... it needed more attention and treatment

in terms of commercial success + critical acclaim, this era actually probably rivals GGGB for her, given the times

Did Brandy set the record

Yes. She was the first to do at least 12 weeks. That's a feat.
Cause usually to have to long weeks in the Top 10, you had to have had a #1 hit or a Top 5 song.

She peaked at #6. Which just shows the longevity of the song, as most songs below Top 5 are IN and OUT and replaced by new songs.

Brandy also set the record for the BIGGEST jump into the Top 5 in 1995 with "BABY"
#60 to #5
Right after that.

She held the record until the digital era.
