The average catalog album (a very old release) sells between 1 - 2,000 (if they're lucky) albums a week.
If we maxed it out at 2,000 x 52 weeks... that's 105,000 units sold in a year. It'd take 10 years to even sell another million albums at that rate.

where is there documentation on this?

There was a Billboard article I read on Chart Beat some time ago, about the average sales of catalog albums. I was looking for it.

But old albums don't really sell that much week-to-week in general, of course there's the exceptions ... like Adele's 21 still sells 3k on average 5 years later.

They said they don't care unless there's intrest from her old label
During her biggest eras Janet was switching labels like underwear
RN18 was at 8 million sold last time and some of these albums have sold just over 7 million...
