I see him as the male version of Toni Braxton
Huge songs, huge albums, big sales, but lack the impact on wider pop culture
but they made a big mark in R&B
But even toni>>>>>>>
She has an ICONIC sound and style. She's had iconic moments. Before jlos dress, TONI was the one that had the showstopping dress. She's more of a legend imo tbh

Lol The reason why y'all think Toni and Faith Evan's are icons and Usher's not is because you happen to like Toni and Faith better.  Y'all probably just like female artists more.

I love female artists, too.  But, by now, anyone should respect Usher's contribution to the music industry.
exactly
thats what I meant by how they "Oh Brit! Bey! Madonna!"
they will not recognize men on here
We recognizem MJ, Prince and R.Kelly on here ALL the time, those 3 have made lasting impacts on pop culture which makes them icons
Usher hasnt

yall run to those generic ass names and that just pushes my point further. There are younger men than them who have made impacts on pop culture and yes Usher is one of them. The only reason y'all are downplaying his is because you can't relate.

FlowerBomb

Cant relate how?
because we're gay?
last time i checked the names I mentioned were all men...

RAY7

and those are just run of the mill examples
like if anyone wanted to name a rapper they run to Biggie or Pac
just shows y'all don't really pay male artist any attention like that
Michael and Prince are undeniable, but they are not the only men that young men are influenced by in the industry in 2016

some people on the net use the word 'icon' or 'iconic' too easily.

Icon means something huge, someone that left an impact worldwide and for music history. There's only a few that are real icons, and mostly are from the 80s/90s:

Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, Whitney.....

And if we talk from different eras: Aretha, Nina Simone...

Usher? hell fucking No, lol. I mean...... lets be serious here guys. None from my family know who is Usher, that should tell u if he's an icon or not. An icon doesnt mean being an icon in just 1 country or 2, it has to be a worldwide impact and in the long run, not just having some hits here and there. Hits there are thousands, that doesnt make you an Icon

GRAND

i dunno ray

your favs are brandy, beyonce and gospel singers like the rest of us

Because they are the only male artists to have a huge impact on music :uhh: :dead:
Most young male artists today would name R.Kelly as a musical influence before Usher lmao
and what other male artists from this generation do we need to pay attention to
name 3 others that have made an impact as big or as near as big as the 3 I mentioned
we damn near discuss everyone on here...

I think every male R&B artist aspires to have the success Usher has had. But Musically, no one looks to him for inspiration.

they are not the ONLY ones
of course they have the biggest impact
Madonna has a bigger impact than Britney, but Britney still made an impact
Usher made an impact as well. Chris, Trey, NE-YO, Jason Derulo, Miguel, August etc have all also named Usher as an influence, and their videos and performances look way more like Usher's than Mike, Prince or Roberts
