I think comparing yourself to others, looking at what people are doing, is an immature way to self-growth.
Because if you think about it, someone will always be "doing something ELSE" than what you are doing.
Create your own sense of self-actualization, on YOUR terms, challenge YOURSELF based on YOUR own life experiences. Be inspired, of course, but stay in tune with your core.

hmmmm...

Interesting. One would have to compare themselves to a friend if their friend's news prompts a reevaluation of self.

There's a responsible way to be inspired, IMO.

Not every inspiration requires a reevaluation -- sometimes it just adds/compliments a "continuation" of a positive path that you're already ON. It's like your friend is equally yoked with you, although you live different lives. So you never feel less than or greater than. Hence, no jealousy.

I find those individuals less likely to be comparing themselves, changing paths, or taking emotional and mental hits.

All in all, jealousy is a normal human emotion.
But just like any emotion...
There's healthy and unhealthy levels.

It is but not everybody experiences every single human emotion. Hate is a human emotion, i cant say I've ever hated anyone.

Well, reevaluation is a word that was used by others in this thread to describe what they do once they hear of their friend's good news.

I feel the same, if your friend has you reevaluating your life, how is that not a bit of a comparison and insecurity? I don't get it, but mess.

If your friend has you reevaluating your entire life, comparing yourself to them (putting yourself down), based off every accomplishment they achieve, then yes, that is a major issue. :dead:

But no shade to anyone who does that, that is not the reality for all of us.
There are people who are relatively stable within their lives, and who get inspired from time to time, WITHOUT the need to put themselves down, feel insecure, or get jealous. :dead: It's no different than BRANDY being an inspiration, for instance. I'm not jealous of sis.  :dead: But I'm inspired. Look at it that way...
