I agree when TC said not to forget the people who worked with an artist.... i just want to point out that not all song writers have a specific artist in mind whenever they write a song.... it's still the artist's talent that make all their song shine.... I remember the people who wrote true stated that they initially wrote the song for MJ but brandy like it and made it her own... something that make sense to her....
