The problem is that people think Beyonce should be nominated by default. And this is what Ive been saying about her music. In my opinion, it gets rotation and award nominations by default. Not because the music is spectacular, but because shes Beyonce. Default, expected recognition is really cheap to me. It doesnt really speak about the quality of the product but the popularity of the brand. Which is backwards. Sure, her being Black and a mainly Pop/Urban artist may play a role. But theres a weeeeee little itty bitty chance that the song just isnt THAT good. I'm sure dozens of artists submitted songs but there can only be but a few nominees. Cant get mad because you....wait for it.... EXPECT her to be included by default, just because she asked. n.
Who thinks that tho? I mean other than her stans, who are gonna think she should be nominated just because she woke up.
It could be argued the other direction as well. People like yourself are never gonna think she deserves a thing because its Beyonc?. She hasn't sung a lyric of quality in her life let some u tell it. Had a Janelle Monae sang DHY, in the exact same way, there would be no controversy.
Sure a lot times the committee looks at the music she's released in a paticular year and immediately throws it into consideration before they might some obscure act, who may be just as deserving. Because she is NAME. A top name. If you don't think Sinatra, Whitney, Michael or Aretha benefited from the same privilege, you're foolish. It's the way it's been. Doesn't make it right but it wasn't born with Beyonc?. She's had an era where she was ignored by the Grammys for the most part (4). These noms aren't outta nowhere, she had one of the topped reviewed albums of the year.
But all of this is silly to me anyway because Don't Hurt Yourself is a song of quality. A ROCK song of quality. The lyrical content and the way it was sang, is convincing
