QuoteIf you?re a gay man, phrases like ?no blacks? and ?no Asians? aren?t just words that you?d find on old signs in a civil rights museum, they are an unavoidable and current feature of your online dating experience. On gay dating apps like Grindr and Scruff, some men post blunt and often offensive disclaimers on their profiles such as ?no oldies,? ?no fems,? and ?no fatties.? Among the most ubiquitous are racial disclaimers like ?no blacks? and ?no Asians,? which are most frequently posted by white men but, as Edwards?s case proves, not always.

Sometimes, men even use foods as metaphors for entire ethnic groups: ?No rice? to deter Asian men, ?no spice? to keep the Latinos away, and ?no curry? to tell Indians they don?t have a shot.

Those who deploy these disclaimers defend themselves from accusations of ?racism? by claiming that they merely have ?preferences? for certain races over others. Wrote one gay blogger, ?Don?t tell me I can?t have a preference! I don?t want to have sex with women. No hard feelings. Does that make me a misogynist?? Others have argued that it is impossible to separate the language of so-called sexual racism from racism in other spheres of life. There is a reason, they insist, that men of color are most often pushed to the sexual wayside. ?No whites? is a much less popular slogan.

I always feel offended when I see something like this on an app.

Buy The Stars✨

meh i mean the time they spent writing the article they could have found someone who liked them.  Though i do think its rude to say your racial preference in your profile.  If someone youre not interested in messages you just block or ignore.. simple

Depends on the intent or reasoning behind the "preference".

It's always weird these things cause an uproar. I personally would appreciate the honesty lolz.

I do feel like its a form of racism, it's just internalized and ingrained

and I think everyone does it, even black guys don't say it, but they don't check for white men

I met a really nice mixed guy, white and latino, we really had a lot in common. It made me realize experiences should always outweigh how someone looks on the outside.

Yeah "no whites" "no wetbacks" "no trans" "no hambuguler" "no bottoms" I don't see the harm in that.

I do think it's racism to a degree.

I get that everyone has preferences, but to eliminate an entire race of people from your dating pool tells me that something isn't right.

I had this discussion with a friend of a friend who doesn't date Black men. His excuse is that he just isn't into the "features" of Black men. When I asked about the features to which he's referring his response was, "I'd rather not go there. I see what's happening here."

If you aren't into certain traits that's fine. However, Black people have an array of features. So I was ready to call him out, but he bowed out of the conversation because he knew I was ready to fuckin pounce and call him out.

Unfortunately it doesn't always work that way

I can understand having a type tho, I just call it a fetish or weakness, I wouldn't say "oh only attracted to this!"

cause WHEW ... I've never dated a white guy ... but girls ... the quickest way to get my legs up and spread is a white boy with nigger swag WHOAA!

For me, I'm attracted to MEN. I don't care what race you are.
I know what I like when I see it. You either have IT or you don't.
It has nothing to do with race. It's about the individual.

Jon

Not really. Everyone has a preference. I just hurtful when people put that on their profiles though imo. lol
