I can't believe mariah was "white" the first few years of her career
I can't believe she was "not-white" the rest of her career. The gorls don't even know her mulato Latino ddy. She grew up with her Irish white mother. mixed fine. Black I never got it growing up.

What is a pure black person?

No one is 100% anything.

This stupid Rachel Dolezal argument.

People consider Mariah black?
I used to  :plzstop:
Now she's someone who i always thought mixed BUT black. I dont really concern myself with your background and trying to put u in different categories. If i can tell u have black in you, I'll pretty much just call u black. Doesnt mean that I'm ignorant to the fact that ur makeup is diverse tho.  Like Drais said, no one is really 100% anything. Im not playing black police and categorizing people by exactly how much black blood runs thru their vines
This is my pass to say WHATEVER tf I wanna say about the mess she releases so I don't wanna hear SHIT! Baby mama is a mess of a song btw

I think the point is that if someone who looked like Tia/Tamera, or Maia Campbell or (younger) Stacey Dash won a Black beauty contest, no one would question or be up in arms about it. Because they CLEARLY have Black ancestry running through their veins.

But, I see why people are upset that someone who appears to have no noticeable Black heritage is crowned Black Beauty Kwee. :plzstop: Does that make sense?

Yeah at least don't pass as completely non-black. The mentioned girls couldn't deny their African ancestry. This peagant girl easily could.

Weird how some people are literally OBSESSED with trying to separate mixed from black.

It's just not the same as far as beauty and looks. That's it. Anything else align yourself how you want. Self image and representation, call it what it is.

!!!!!!!
right. black became so much more than features and hair to me. If you were in the struggle it didn't matter

I realized different shades of being black was kinda MOOT when I saw the vids of light skinned blacks being hosed down with darker skinned blacks. It's the same struggle

I know it stems back to slavery and even beyond that, but wonder what is the cause of this recent resurgence of colorism

cause it's totally a mental thing, nothing really concrete :dead:

That's just foolish honestly. Black people do this so much and don't even realize it and they wonder why biracial people act the way they do. I had an encounter with a woman not too long ago that kinda pissed me off. She was already annoying me with some strange questions about my ancestry but then she had the nerve to correct me when I said I was black. I had to cuss her out.  :uhh:

IDK people are just weird. Blacks have this limited perception of what "mixed" is supposed to look like. I guess I just think differently because I grew up in a melting pot of mess.

Exactly.

This is why a lot of people are having issue with this beauty kwee. They can't see the Black in her. I think if there was more of a hint of Black, regardless of whether she's light or whatever, this thread wouldn't even exist. Blacks are HIGHLY inclusive.

Now, I think that if this woman were being honored for outstanding scholastic efforts, or becoming a supreme court judge, etc. and she identified as Black, no one would have a problem with it. The gorls would rally in support. Just as we did Jesse Williams when he made his speech on BET. And he looks more white than Black.

But it's the fact that this is a BEAUTY contest. And has been crowned as the ultimate Black beauty -- but has no noticeable trace of Black in her. What message does that send?

Hope that makes sense. :sobusyjetsetter:

That's what I've been saying. She can't represent black BEAUTY. Talent, wits, etc sure. Not the beauty contest though.

Why does/should she have a noticeable trace of black in her?
why not just accept her for being black, half or not

not every black person looks the same

Any shade, shape, form or fashion can be or identify as black. Just not on a beauty level.

What's wrong with being mixed. You can still identify with your black side and be pro-black. But it's nothing wrong with acknowledging your mixed. It's a different reality from blacks.

The argument that mixed and black have exactly the same struggle is also stupid.

Light skin Privilege is real, and white colonial money through one side of the family is real too.
