But you also have to start with education. How many black people get the chance to really become a good writer? Inspire young kids to go study..talent will get recognised

I don't know how it's in the US, but I know at some art schools over here it gets more white every day. And it has to do with teachers who select students I guess, but also with promotion of the education at the right places.

Of course things have to change in the industry. If this is the average picture of graduated screenwriting/film academy students I don't know what will happen. Again I don't live in the US, I don't know numbers..if this isn't the case in US that's great.

I see your point. But blacks can go to acting school all they want. Doesn't mean roles will be opening up any quicker. So whether or not they're in school has so little to do with the bigger problem, over here at least.

Golden Brooks, who gladly totes around her acting degree, is perched on a reality show at the end of the day.

Ok yeah that's true. I just felt a bit sad when Lee made this 'why even bother' comment..people should be encouraged to keep trying and I thought giving young kids more chances and promo that would help a tiny bit. But I guess it doesn't even matter when everything is fucked up. You're right the girls from Hollywood divas are good examples, they're all fighting for that one role. Everyone's fighting to be the Naomi/Tyra in fashion, but white girls have no problems getting a job. 'Nude color' in fashion is still white. And it's been like that for so long...

(and thanks Afro for not giving me a Genesis treatment, I'm really trying to figure things out you know..most of the things I post about these type of problems are more thoughts than opinions. I just keep getting more and more surprised when I read these stories about racism in the US)

I know where you're coming from my love. It's nowhere near a harsh place.

I've spoken to many people overseas, even blacks, who are surprised at the amount of focus that is placed on race here in the states. It's no surprise when foreigners have a harder time actually grasping the grim reality across the pond.

Herb.

And that's not to say that racism doesn't exist overseas, because it definitely is alive there as well. But here in the states we are immersed in the conversation and experiences.

No there's definitely racism in Europe..
the typical photographer/movie maker/politician/ceo is male and white.

Bentley!

I'm glad he spoke up

But I hate that every black show that's popular is "speaking" for Black ppl
Blacks are very diverse, I feel right now between him and Tyler, although popular, we're still limited to typecasted roles.

I mean, yea they're slaying, which is great. But if it's a Tyler or Lee affair, I can bet there will either be a slave mother working as a maid her whole life, or the "I can do bad by myself" girl, or some outlandish loud angry black woman. And the black men are either ex dealers or cheating.

I'd really like it to be diversified even more to show how truly diverse black ppl are. Gimme a Sci-Fi thriller, like Halle and Extant, but instead of sis having a old white husband, give her a black cast
