I'd say start your journey when you feel its right. You'll know when.
And you'll learn a lot when you're genuinely interested. So just wait until you are.
There's the great things, then there's things that let u know how fucked up this world really is. For example:

South Africa seems like a pretty disgusting place when it comes to racial relations.
Probably even more divisive than America....

One of my cousins -- David C Driskell is an artist (I never knew about him but apparently my family already did)... went there for a project, as a proud BLACK man. Only to later find out he was classified as "honorary white" during his visit -- a classification usually given to East Asians who migrate to South Africa.

But at no time prior to my visit had I been told that my racial identity while in South Africa would be ?honorary white.? The unusual circumstances surrounding this unpleasant experience conjured up in my mind the notion that while there, I was passing for black and not as an ?honorary white.? I reacted to this notion of racial displacement by creating a number of works of art that addressed the subject of race and identity as I experienced it in South Africa.

That was his first experience of being separated from his brothers and sisters.
And in AFRICA of all places. Reading this made me so fucking angry and sad.

This was epic and true.

It's no way a grown white person living in America is unaware of their privileges. Especially in 2017 -- there's so many channels where they can be informed of it -- whether it be radio, TV, social media. You'd have to be living under a ROCK to be oblivious.

People may interpret this as her saying that all whites are maliciously racist , but that's not what she's saying at all. She's just saying to never trust a white person who denies their knowledge of said privileges, especially in the era of Trump. They're a liar.
