no one has actually confirmed it to my knowledge

They NEVER will. Ppl won't understand but I do. there are reports that stated that they told the pilot to stand down and he shot it down any way

i feel like at that point the government saw it is a WIN to shoot the plane down and keep it from going into any buildings..  i dunno i feel like there is soo much more to the stories that we will never truly know what happened on those plans
