these were drunk college kids

its not uncommon for them to get VERY stupid once they get alcohol in their system

and assume it's a quick kii since its "just" an uber driver and "just" the ride home.

they're honestly lucky he even pulled off after they blurted that foolishness out as they got in his car. surprised he didn't kick them out from the jump.

he tried to ignore the ignorance and just get through this ride. Plan A didn't work so Plan B was letting these people where they can go, how they can get there, and that it wouldn't be in his car.
