And looking at these submissions, I don't think Jay will win absolutely anything in Rap.  I see Kendrick sweeping.  The only thing Jay could possibly win is for "Shining".  The Rap/Sung submissions are weak this year, but "Loyalty" could take it.

Jay's best shot at a GRAMMY this year is in the Video category for "The Story Of OJ".  I don't even see him getting into the General categories.

SZA's GRAMMY submissions make me nervous.  I just wish she would have submitted "Love Galore" across the board.  It's her smash and the song that blew her up.  I didn't want her to submit "The Weekend", but I knew she would.  "Love Galore" in Rap/Sung was a bad move.  Too much competition.  She should have put "Love Galore" in R&B Performance over "The Weekend".  But we'll see.

Her biggest competition right now is "Wild Thots".

It's not as well known as "Love Galore" outside of her core audience.  "LG" is platinum and her breakthrough song.  It would have been stronger to submit it in both categories.  A lot of times on ballots, people will vote for what they know.  So, two different categories in R&B to vote for what they know is stronger than just one.  I think "The Weekend" can maybe land the nomination, but she better really promote it through GRAMMY season and get people familiar with it.  There's like 2 or 3 voting rounds through January.

Someone not familiar with "The Weekend" might vote for something they know.  She's going up against "Wild Thots" in both R&B categories, so I'm interested to see how it plays out.  R&B is honestly the hardest category to predict.  Some years they'll lean traditional, and others they'll lean more commercial.  "Formation" was submitted in R&B Song and R&B Performance, and it didn't even land the nominations.  Yet "Drunk In Love" won both in 2015.  Or when Solange snatched from "Needed Me" earlier this year.  No one really predicted that.

The R&B nomination chapter always seems a little PRESSED.  So, we'll see.

And what was Alicia thinking submitting to Urban Contemporary Album?

She should have submitted to R&B.  I don't even think she'll land a nomination.

Dumb.
