It's not that shocking.

It?s about when you look back on this year which albums stood out and made an impact. If Sza was a man she would?ve been nominated and if she was a white man she?d be the front runner. It?s def not shocking that they decide to snub a black female ...it?s their specialty.

I would normally agree, but in this instance, I don't think it came down to them snubbing her.  I think the R&B chapter pushed Childish Gambino hard and "Redbone" was bigger than every SZA song.  So, he secured the R&B nomination.

You could argue that Khalid had a bigger year than SZA as well.  Sold more and more hits.  And he's not in AOTY either.

SZA is still gaining awareness, and there was just too much competition in AOTY this year.

This is some Pharrell BS where they had a hit song and nobody really messed with the albums.
Sza has consistently been hitting the streaming numbers. Even at this very moment she ranks higher than them.
Her album is more critically acclaimed too ..by almost an entire point.

Khalid?s biggest hit is his feature on that wack rappers song that was supposed to rival bodak. His own mess from his album didn?t have the impact that love galore and the weekend are having.

I?d get it was some FKA twigs where it was a 90+ score (at the time) but with little commercial impact. CTRL made enough of a splash based on the current chart rules.

Jay Z n Childish have no business being in the category IMO.
