I'm not for the boycott btw. Mo'Nique has been rich too long if she thinks normal people are boycotting because she turned down half a million dollars. HOWEVER, I find the inconsistency curious here. Folks are suddenly media executives. I?m also not present for queer folk antagonizing this black woman because she decided to speak out against hegemony.

Sovereign.

It is ironic to pretend like y?all know more about what would constitute a fair rate that Mo'Nique, Sykes, or Deray Davis who recently confirmed he got $5M for his special. Do you work at Netflix? Are you intimately familiar with how they determine what to offer comedians? If the answer if no, then y?all  should question y?alls first instinct to tell this woman she's out of her mind or she?s an egoist. I got time today.

This victim! underdog! complex that she's pushing looks like misguided bitterness wrapped in some faux revolutionary drivel. Telling people to boycott a streaming site that houses the work of many other black artists because you didn't get the check you were hoping for is selfish as hell, and now trying to paint yourself as some decorated legend because of ONE critically acclaimed role over people who have raked in millions from touring all over the world and have been doing it way longer...ch

She and her Ike Turner ass hubby can go back to the hole they crawled out of tbh.

Netflix is now worth more than $100B

Netflix crossed a fun milestone today, crossing the $100 billion mark for its market cap as it once again surprised industry observers with better-than-expected growth in its subscribers.

you can?t really dispute much of what he said :dead:  he isn?t wrong and you aren?t completely wrong yourself

But NO one can confidently sit up here and say she?s going about this the right way. I mean you just admitted this boycott foolishness wasn?t something you?re standing with her on :dead: i certainly never said that ALL of what she said is wrong or invalid, but it?s not always what you say. Tracee Ellis ross just proved that btw.

Being a black woman is a part of the problem, yes, but reputation is as well. When you start to become known as a problem, the phone will not ring as much and the offers will be even less than what you?re worth

What?s Lindsay Lohan up to? Yea ...

But then you play into respectability politics, which then becomes quixotic and a way of policing how this black woman who has profoundly contributed to comedy and world of entertainment - whether you're a fan or not - chooses to express or voice her truth or injustices. Ain't no freedom in what you bringing to the table, my G.

yummy

It's not about respectability or silencing anyone's beliefs, but playing a game YOU willfully signed up for and thinking about something other than yourself.

Did she take into account how her boycott would effect the work of the other black women on Netflix? Lena Waithe's new show just premiered on Netflix this week and here comes this dummy talking about a boycott because she wants someone to line her pockets with extra money. I'm sorry, but this whole stunt came off self serving and grossly pretentious.

Sovereign.

Lena will be fine along with every other black writer and actor who is emplyed by Netflix. And in no way is Mo'Nique dumb. Y'all performed this same shit against when she decided to speak out against Daniels, Tyler and Oprah. And again, y'all have no credibility or proof of how these relationships function on a genuine level.

Sovereign.

And it's evident Mo'Nique has not played this game for a whilst...if ever. She's always maintained true to her values and how she wants to be identified among her cohorts and in a culture that is capitalistic and white.

yummy

You're right because this "boycott" will continue to be viewed a fucking joke.

Good luck to her dismantling the system tho. Maybe the Queens court can host her next comedy special.

Scott.

Monique is just making herself look more and more deluded and idiotic everytime she opens her mouth. Giving me a straight up Janet Huber latte

that sounds nice and it?s very well written but we?re living in the real world.

If she were truly fighting the power and didn?t come off as arrogant, grandiose and flat out delusional while disrespecting people like Whoppi and others that have paved the way, maybe she?d be getting more support here.

Call it ?respectability politics? if you want, but in REALITY she could have maybe gotten what she wanted, helped other black female artists and really made a signifant impact IF she went about this just slightly differently. We have to be realistic here :dead:  NO one is saying she shouldn?t have spoken out, because many women are and will.

and what If they weren?t? They?re only FINE because Mo?Nique made very little impact due to her approach.

They will be fine is your only response to that? :kii: it?s selfish
