if you can't miss 1-2 checks without things spiraling out of control, you're lower class.

I think the "classes" are simply based on household size vs. income.

Someone could simply be living beyond their means - in terms of where they chose to live, how thy spend money, etc. which could affect their ability to keep up, even though they're making "good money".

It all depends.

But I'd say if you're able to pay your rent, bills, and still have plenty of money to comfortably spend, you're probably closer to a "middle class".

The main groups who use food stamps are broke college students and senior citizens, so maybe we should rethink who exactly is being targeted with these new provisions.

And it would be nice to if this same energy was focused on the wall street bankers who abuse bonuses and ponzi schemes.
