Is it because the oppressed and marginalized need something to believe in? Also, do you any of you believe it's a method of social control?

I found this interesting:

Christianity has been used to give hope to the oppressed for a long, long time. Medieval serfs were taught being a serf was their god-given role, and if they were a good Christian serf they'd get their reward in heaven. Women were taught if they were obedient to their husbands, they'd get their reward in heaven. Slaves were taught if they humbly accepted their lot, they'd get their reward in heaven. The shittier your lot in this life, the more humble you are and the greater your reward in heaven will be.

Looking at the broader, global picture. Religion tends to spread easier on populations with lower education levels.
Within the US, black and ethnic communities historically come from poor communities and have lower than average education. The US as a country, usually scores lower on education tests when compared to other developed countries. So the US in general also tends to be more religious.

I've seen different opinions of this topic. I've seen a lot of black people say it's not because of oppression and religion/the theory of GOD was always a part of our culture. I wanna know what do you guys truly believe?

For me, I gave up religion a long time ago, when I was old enough to make the decision of going to church or not on my own, I decided to stop and gave up the notion of god all together. I remember praying to be delivered, but once I hit 18 , I pretty much stopped praying. Now I just look at religious folks like they're crazy tbh.
