I don't understand why people are overlooking the work black filmmakers and actors have been making over the past few decades to prop up this movie.

This was the first time I?ve seen a movie where the Black lead wasn?t a slave.

He sounds like people who only listen to top 40 radio and then turn around and complain about "real music" not being a thing anymore. There's really no excuse not to be expanding your own palette when we have access to any and every facet of pop culture right at our fingertips.

I think it was a bit much for him to say the reason EVERYONE is going to see it is because this is the first time we've seen Black people as non-slaves in a film.

He clearly hasn't expanded his horizons but I wouldn't say its outrageous for someone to say they aren't used to seeing Black people portrayed in a more respectable or regal manner.

You see the way people showed up to the movie theatres dressed as the King of Zumunda and mess. sdssdsdds It's out there, but it's rare and you may have to dig a bit.

Someone should sift him a list of movies to watch and call it a night.

And especially when it comes to Africa....This could have been what he was getting at.

I've always said that AA's separate ourselves from Africa a lot because as we grew up, the only time we ever saw anything Africa related on TV was some commercial with gnats flying around a child's mouth or some sort of safari. If it were up to American media we'd all think Africa was some COUNTRY full of poverty and animals, and wild Black people running around throwing spears at each other.

There's some truth to what he's saying - he may need to rethink the wording ...the articulation is a bit off maybe.
