Bowing down to people is just common courtesy in our culture (Eritrea/Ethiopia). Regardless of the person's race, you still bow down as a sign of respect.

In Ethiopia, whenever you see the news (such as ETV and other mess), the newscaster always bows his/her head down as soon as the show starts and as soon as the show ends as a sign of respect.
