Michelle Williams Describes Thoughts on First Rehearsal for Destiny's Child Reunion at Coachella

Michelle Williams' reaction to the Destiny's Child reunion at this year's Coachella Festival was probably a lot like yours: "What in the bejesus is this?" That's what Williams told the Los Angeles Times about her feelings when she first walked into rehearsal for the trio's vaunted get back during what many took to calling Beychella thanks to Beyonc?'s utter dominance of the fest's two weekends.

"Initially I was like, 'Bey, just go out there and have fun," Williams said she told her old bandmate, who became the first black woman to headline the fest over the past two weekends. "People are gonna be so excited to see you." But when Williams arrived for that first rehearsal and saw the giant pyramid filled with nearly 100 singers and dancers she knew her advice had fallen on deaf ears. "I told you just to go have fun! But she can never do anything that we would think is normal. And this is what's fun for her."

It was not a so well-kept secret that Bey, Williams and Kelly Rowland would reunite for the fest -- where they sang a mini-set that included such hits as "Soldier," "Lose My Breath" and "Say My Name" -- but Williams said that the feeling of being up there again in front of the massive Coachella crowd was awe-inspiring. "Let's call it a blessing," she said. "Beyonc? and Kelly ? they've been in the game for, what, 23 years? Me just 18 years. And when people see us together they still lose their minds! People are asking, "When y'all gonna tour? When y'all gonna put out new music?" It's been 14 years since we've had an album together, and people are still asking."

As you might expect, the rehearsals were super intense, with Williams revealing that everybody was pushing each other to be their very best. "When Beyonc? does something, it's because she knows that if she can do it, everybody else on the stage can do it," she said. "Somebody might have to rehearse a little longer than others or go over the music parts a little longer. But she shows that you put the work in, and I know that however many people were onstage ? 150, 200 ? I know they're all gonna go home and their lives are gonna be changed because they saw her work ethic. They saw that she's not some glamorous girl on private jets with assistants flocking her side, who just walks in and magically dances so great onstage. She is involved."

In addition to the fierce performance and guest spots from Bey's husband, JAY-Z, as well as sister Solange, the sets were a celebration of black culture and history, which Williams said was not just a "long time coming," but also a very important moment. "Music can heal and it can unite; it can unite races, cultures, faiths. And that's what we saw out there in that audience," she said, proud that DC (but really, Beyonc?), was able to do that. "I'm not trying to get sappy, preachy, whatever. But there's enough out there to divide us. I just love what she was able to do. I told her, 'You have definitely had a hand in shifting the culture.'"

Since the trio went on hiatus in 2001 they've occasionally gotten back together -- for the Super Bowl in 2013, to record a song for one of Williams' albums in 2014 -- but now that Williams lives in Los Angeles she said their off-stage relationship has grown even stronger. "I'm so happy to finally move to where the girls are. Kelly is a four-minute drive from me; I think Bey is 17 minutes exactly," she said. "So we can get together any time, whenever we want to. We haven't lived in the same city since we left Houston in the early 2000s."

Opposites Attract.

Awwww her bedding line must be doing well if she was able to afford a mess in Casablanca.

It's unconditional, these days you know....
