& why are ALL the ppl in the pr&b genre pretentious
I feel like a lot of them try too hard to be different, like just stfu.

From their IG captions to their interviews.

I'm really weird guys! let me explain my music in the most asinine way possible!

And say what you want about Jhene Aiko, but she has her thing too, and i like her particular style over a lot of the moody girls

Isn't she like the poster child for this sound though?

Her, Frank Ocean and The Weeknd/Drake were the first to make this sound popular. Rochelle Jordan and Dawn too but they were never mainstream.

I do agree that this sound has become stagnant now. Elhae, Elijah Blake, HIM, They, Roy Woods etc are interchangeable to me.

Gilgamesh.

This is why I liked Elle Varner. Her music was a good balance of neosoul and this alternative mess.

The gag is some of these women have voices to ONLY pull
Off sad songs.. Rodney said one time that Brandy MUST sing sad songs ONLY lol

Lazarus

I'm not into none of these newer girls. They do nothing for me.

I'd trade them all in for a Brooke Valentine, Teairra Mari, Nastasha, etc.

Again, H.E.R. And Ella Mai literally sound the exact same to me

I need for one of them to separate themselves because ..  no. I don?t want all of these girls to be interchangeable, although i like quite a few of the songs of course. The melodies are really what draw me in, but i can?t listen to that all damn day.

It?s mood music

I feel like y?all don?t give her enough credit
My sis switches it up a bit on her compilation project

Ack

yummy

All these girls are basically occupying the lane Aaliyah crafted with her last album. That whole melancholic sound complimented by an airy vocal was Aaliyah's signature, just toss a trap drum in the mix and that's just about every girl in the R&B arena's sound in a nutshell.

I've been over it.

yummy

And that Boo'd Up song is ASS

not getting the hoopla over it at all
