Its funny how people use certain sources as reciepts only when it works in their favor.

Billboard?!  :kii:

Idk if you're just doing this for a debate but Mary isn't neo-soul at all. Yes, she has done neo-soul songs in the past when neo-soul was at it's peak but that isn't her sound.
Mary is R&B/Hip-hop soul.

and it was never Bey, Rih, and Alicia
Alicia wasn't that hot when Rih blew up
It's more like Bey, Ashanti & Alicia
then Bey, Rih, Nicki and Lyndriette

!!!

Mary being considered neo soul is like Taylor Swift being considered as a rapper.

"Unheard of!"

we said what we said, hun.

LOL!
Doesnt really matter hunny bunches of oats

Billboard agrees with me>>>>

I don't think they were calling her style neo soul.  I think they meant her style started something that influenced the neo soul movement.  She put soul music together with hip-hop.  Then Erykah put hip hop with even older soul music and fused it with jazz.  I've never heard of neo soul before Erykah and them came on the scene.

Alicia had ONE bad era and yall acting like she fell off the planet lol

Not to mention, even in her 1 bad era she STILL HAD a hit song. Let's not go too wild.

Alicia and Bey still go head to head in my eyes. Rihanna was never part of the competition to me on the sense that she isn't nearly up to par in the talent category and only has 1 #1 album.

Yeah she got predictable and boring..plus I think most of the production was done on the computer while her first albums sounded great because of live instrumentation

Alicia gave me what I NEEDED
IMO she has more classics than Bey

crying. its even more obvious that she's pop/R&B like everyone else when you start naming the songs  :dead: :dead: :dead: WHERE is the neo soul?

she's just boring overall, so y'all lump her in that. n
jjj is that why this is so long
Who in their right minds would class Alicia as neo soul

Miranda

that was her whole gimmick when she came out. she gave neo-soul, but was pretty and marketable. nnn

Miranda

Songs In A Minor is one of the poster child neo soul albums. Live instrumentations, jazzy vocals, self-written "deep" lyrics.

Miranda

if alicia was some nappy headed dark skin hefty womans there would be not a singe doubt that her first albums are 100% neo soul.
