She debuted in the early 1940s, when roles in comics for women were limited to femme fatales or damsels in distress. The idea that a standalone, female hero not directly attached to a male could sustain an enduring comic was ahead of its time. It?s remarkable to me how her IP has lasted this long without as many media interpretations as her peers like Batman or Superman.
