When you really think about it......

American Black people's last names came from White people/slaveholders who owned their families (in most cases). But when parents prepare to name their child, they have more of a say-so in the first name. It gives them a space to be creative.

I mean we laugh sometimes at "Toqueda", "Dayquan" and "Lameeka" , etc. But it's pretty cool that Black people in America have somehow developed a unique and very distinctive style of naming kids.

It kinda speaks volumes to Black creativity as a whole, when you really think about it.

Sle is the only person on this site that knows my real name (Cody as well). Its one of those names if you see it once you'd remember it.

My dad wanted me to take his name (Salvador) and my mom wanted me name something else. So they just put them both together. Taking the first 2 letters of his and mixing it with the one she wanted. 

I love it though. IDK if its gotten my application thrown in the trash when I used to apply at places.
People should honestly take pride in their names.
