QuoteIt does not take a great deal of imagination to contemplate instances in which armed teachers dealing with recalcitrant children will react out of fear and racial stereotype and discharge their weapons as they do the disciplinary code. Police officers — ostensibly trained in the use of firearms and the observation of criminal behavior — have shot and killed black children at an alarming rate, often citing their fear of the child or mistaken belief that the child was armed. They rarely, if ever, pay the consequences. We have every reason to believe that armed teachers will react similarly and keep their jobs with impunity. Just this past weekend, the Florida Senate is charging ahead with a proposal to arm teachers anyway — over the objections of Parkland victims' families and students. More than two dozen black lawmakers, in particular, are keenly aware that letting educators pack heat is a "recipe for disaster." They get it.

Everything we spelled out king

No one ever denied the existence of racist teachers who may use this as an excuse to use excessive force. No one ever said there's no possibility that misuse of the firearm based on racial stereotype or fear could occur. At least I know I didn't.

However, my aunt is an educator. With schools being shot up left and right, I wouldn't mind someone handing her something for her protection - especially if she taught a school out in Ohio with a bunch of weird White kids coming into the class every day.

Luckily, she's the director of a daycare so the chance of one of the toddlers bringing a gun to class and firing away is less likely. Just understand why I may personally see this from more than one angle than the most controversial and seemingly entertaining one.

If you vehemently oppose the decision make sure you do your due diligence to ensure your voice is heard on the issue, outside the confines of BSource walls. Which I'm sure you guys are already doing.

Being personally impacted by something is fair and understandable. Not being able to see past that personal experience on an issue that impacts so many is the dicey part. Framing your personal exp as an equivalent perspective for guns in schools is also a lil dicey imo.

No one is saying we can't see your (or whomever else's) angle , it's just not a sufficient one. Still have yet to see you raise a legitimate reason in favor of guns in classes beyond your aunt being an educator. You also admitted to it being unlikely she would ever need one because she works in a daycare, so what was all of this about???

Also,  thanks for using my verbiage. If you are sure we are raising our voices on the issue, why'd ya post that?

I caught the edits too.

Maybe put metal detectors up?
There is literally no rational or logical explanation as to why teachers need to carry guns in the classroom :dead:
What kind of environment is that going to create knowing your geography teacher is carrying a glock in his desk :uhh:
America get real.

(and that wasn't directed at you, so don't cry at me!)

"Not being able to see past that personal experience.."

Your argument hit a flat line there for me, tbh. And that was what....the second sentence you wrote to me about this? Your entire speech was based off of an assumption that I am unable to see anything other than what could possibly affect myself. That is totally untrue. I see this from all sides. I'd say there's more evidence to say that you only see this from one angle and are stuck in that. Which is fine and totally understandable. It's a valid concern. Again, I never said it wasn't.

And, if anything, me referencing the fact that it's a daycare as opposed to junior high or high school is something that gives me solace when I see these stories. It's not to say it could never happen, because just as there are nutjob kids, there are nutjob parents who pick them up as well.

I hope that makes sense, luv.

It didn't seem that way when you responded to me posting those articles on the NRA with some other article that didn't seem to have anything to do with my initial point.

:diddraispoot:

yummy

You know how to dress it up real cute Annalise, but your snarky and dismissive  tone in response  to me posting those articles diminishes your point.

But thanks for proving my point :dead: again
