It also depends on your interpretation of the definition for "icon". An icon is basically just a strong representation or symbol for a particular moment in time. Ashanti is definitely one of the largest representations for early 2000s R&B music. I can see where Ja Rule is arguable. However when we start discussing "influence", I think it shifts more into a conversation of "legendary" status.
